How to Change Your Email Dedicated Sending Domain if You Accidently Overrode it in GoalGetters

In this help article, I will show you the process of changing your DNS records to point back to your original domain provider if you accidently overrode them when connecting your dedicated sending domain.

To reconnect your domain to Google Workspace after it was accidentally connected in GoalGetters, follow these steps:

Step 1: Log into Your Domain Provider

  • Access your account where your domain is registered.

Step 2: Access DNS Settings:

  • Every domain provider has a different layout and slightly different wording. Look for something that says "My Domains" or "My Products"  and find your domain.
  • Click on "DNS" to access the DNS settings for the domain you want to reconnect.

Step 3: Remove Incorrect DNS Records:

  • Look for any DNS records related to the dedicated sending domain you previously connected. These will be the two MX records, one CNAME, and the TXT records.
  • Remove these records to avoid conflicts.

Step 4: Add Google Workspace DNS Records: [Note: In this example, I am using Google Workspace because that is the most common place where people have gotten their sending domain email. However, if you use a different service, the steps are the same.

  • Go to your Google Workspace Admin Console (admin.google.com).
  • Navigate to the "Domains" section and select "Manage domains."
  • Find your domain and click on it to access the setup instructions.
  • Google will provide specific DNS records (MX, TXT, CNAME, etc.) that need to be added to your GoDaddy DNS settings.
  • Go back to your domain provider and add the provided Google Workspace DNS records to your domain's DNS settings.

Verify Domain in Google Workspace:

  • After updating the DNS records, return to the Google Workspace Admin Console.
  • Follow the verification process to confirm that the DNS settings are correctly configured.
  • This may involve adding a TXT record for verification purposes.

Check Email Settings:

  • Once the domain is verified, ensure that your email settings are correct in Google Workspace.
  • Test sending and receiving emails to confirm everything is working properly.

Additional Tips:

  • Propagation Time: DNS changes can take some time to propagate. It might take up to 48 hours for the changes to take full effect.
  • Support: If you encounter any issues, your domain provider can offer customer support that can assist you with the setup process.
